FAQ


 

Q. Can anyone tryout for an Ottawa Elite team?
Yes! Tryouts are open to all players.
Players are able to pay the $25 tryout fee online prior to the tryout. Registration is open to all players interested in trying out for an Ottawa Elite team. Should you choose not to register online, please bring a completed waiver form and $25 cash to the tryout. Waivers can be found on our website. Once you have been selected for an Ottawa Elite team the full registration fee will be added to your account for payment. The team selection process can begin after the first tryout.

Q. Once I’ve been selected for a team, how do I register with the OYBA?
All players must register online through our registration system.

​Q. What are the costs associated with playing on an Ottawa Elite team?
All players are responsible for paying the Ottawa Elite registration fee, team fees and  their own travel expenses to tournaments, games etc.

Q. Is there financial assistance available for the registration fees?
Financial assistance is available for players through a number of different agencies. Infomation on these can be found on our website HERE  .Players can speak to their coaches for further information. 

Q. What equipment does a player need?
Players will receive their Ottawa Elite uniform once they have accepted a position on the team, have registered and have paid their registration fee. The Ottawa Elite uniform is part of the registration fee and is kept by the player. Players are responsible for providing their own basketball.

Q. What is the time commitment?
Ottawa Elite teams practice 2-3 times per week. There will also be games and tournaments around the city and outside of the city throughout the season. Teams will attend a number out of town tournaments per season.
U12 - U14 teams will have regular practices and games beginning in September and ending with the CYBL Showdown March/April.
U15-U19 teams will practice on Sundays beginning in September until the high school season ends. Teams will then have regular practices starting in March with the season-ending with the CYBL Showdown in June.

Q. Is regular attendance required at practices and games?
Yes. Players need to attend practices and games to develop team play. In the case of illness, a player is asked to inform the coaches as soon as possible. In the case of injury, players should attend practices and games to support their team and keep informed of new plays etc.

Q. Is there a guarantee of playing time?
This is an elite competitive basketball program. At this level, playing time is at the discretion of the coaches. The Ottawa Youth Basketball Academy encourages their coaches to develop all players they select for their teams.

Q. How long is the Ottawa Elite season?
The basketball season runs from September to May/June depending on the division.

Q. What are the parental responsibilities?
Parents are asked to ensure their players attend all practices and games, both home and away, regularly and on time.
Parents may be required to keep score, work the score clock or the shot clock for home and some away games. The “Parent Team” is very important to each team.
