Financial Assistance


APPLICATION PROCESS OVERVIEW
When families need a little financial boost to get kids involved in a sport, dance team or other active program, they need to fill out an application. This needs to be done before the fees are due, as the money goes right to the organization. Applications for assistance can typically be submitted from January 15 to November 1; with the goal for funding to be equitably distributed over Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter activities.
Your family meets our financial need requirements and your kid is registered, but what about the skates/cleats/racquets/gloves/helmets/uniforms they need to play? Not to worry. Jumpstart has you covered. The application asks for equipment details. Funds can also be provided for adaptive equipment to help kids with special needs.  
Some other important points to note as part of the application process:
•     Cheques are made payable to the service organization identified as the “Payee” in the application form. The Payee is a service organization (such as a local Hockey Association or gymnastic club) which coordinates the sports or physical activity on behalf of the qualifying youth/child.
•     Cheques are never sent to the parent/guardian directly.
•     All approvals are at the sole discretion of the local Jumpstart Chapter and designated Canadian Tire Regional Manager; and are subject to local demands and Chapter budgets.

If you are a parent or guardian, you can apply for funding on behalf of your child/children by clicking on the Start Application button below. All information provided will be kept confidential.
Before you start, we ask that you first be able to answer “Yes” to the following questions:
•     Is the child on whose behalf you are applying between the ages of 4-18?
•     Is the funding that you require for a program involving a sport or physical activity?
•     Is your family in a demographic which would be considered in financial need (as defined by Government guidelines)? Click here to check if you meet the financial need criteria.
If you can answer “Yes” to all 3 questions, then you will need to provide the following information as part of the application process. Be sure to have them handy once you click on the Start Application button:
•     Your contact information (name, postal code, telephone number and email address).
•     The first name, last name, gender and date of birth of your child.
•     The details of the sport or physical activity in which your child would like to participate.
•     The amount that you are requesting from Jumpstart.
•     The name of the non-profit/charitable/service organization (Payee) running the sport or physical activity program.
Funds or equipment are provided directly to the Payee on behalf of the qualifying youth or child.
•     Proof of financial need. Any one of the following will suffice as proof of financial need—income assessment, prior year T4 statement or three consecutive pay stubs. Instructions will be provided in the application on how to upload a copy of these documents.

THE GRANT PROGRAMS
KidSport™ Ottawa currently offers three types of grant programs:
  1. funding for sport registration fees and/or equipment;
  2. donated sport team placements; and,
  3. donated sport camp placements.

ELIGIBLE FAMILIES
To be eligible for funding for one or more children, families must first meet specific financial criteria as per Revenue Canada’s Low-Income Cut-Offs (LICO) chart.
OTHER FUNDING REQUIREMENTS
  • Children must fall between the ages of 4 - 18 years old.
  • Funding is allocated to sustained programs that involve a sport or physical activity.
  • Programs should be a minimum of five weeks in duration and include at least one session per week. In the case of sports camps, the program must last at least five consecutive days for consideration.
FUNDING DETAILS
  • Applications must be submitted prior to the program's start date
  • Applications must include proof of financial need. A clear, legible and current copy of anyone of the following will suffice as proof of need:
  • Income assessment
  • Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment showing Line 150 – Total Gross Income
  • Most recent, three consecutive pay stubs
  • Canadian Child Benefit (CCB) Statement
  • Funding is up to $200 per activity.
  • Children can be funded for successive seasons in an activity, up to a maximum of $200 per activity.
  • The annual maximum amount a child is eligible to receive is up to $600.
  • Cheques are made payable to the service organization, identified as the “payee” in the application.

Their Opportunity is a grassroots charity in Durham that exists to provide low-income families (total household income of $45,000 or less) with the means to enroll their children in organized sports and recreation programs. Additionally, within 3 months of receiving funding, each child is mandated to “pay-it-forward” through our Giveback ProgramOur program inspires hope while teaching essential life skills of teamwork and compassion; proving that only one change in a child’s life can create an opportunity for inspiration and change, while further impacting our community.
What Makes Us Unique
Wherever our funding is raised is where it stays in order to be distributed to the children of that community.  As well, all personal donations are handled in a way that 90% of the money goes toward programming.
Their Opportunity is a registered charity that is “reaching kids before they need to be rescued”.  Our goal is to engage 5500 children by October 2018 creating community ambassadors for hope, generosity, and change.
FAQ’S
How does a child qualify for our assistance?
a)   Their Opportunity sponsors children, who’s total family income is less than $45,000 per year.
b)   We require proof of income to verify each application.

Do I need a referral for my child to be sponsored by Their Opportunity’s program?
a)   Although Their Opportunity works with many community groups, leagues, and organizations, referrals are not required. However, if you know of a child in need, please approach Their Opportunity and we will work with the Community Group, League or organization to see if we can enroll a child.
Is your charity run by volunteers or paid staff?
The answer to that question is both, 90% of our organization is volunteer based.  Our main office is made up of three paid staff members and 70 plus volunteers.  Our volunteer Board of Directors facilitates the chapters in Calgary and Ottawa.
