Capital Region JUEL Announcement

July 24, 2023 – The OYBA Ottawa Elite, Nepean Blue Devils, Ottawa Next Level, and other Eastern Ontario Basketball Committee (EOBC) member Clubs are pleased to announce a new partnership to deliver a regional high performance basketball program for female athletes in the National Capital and Eastern Ontario regions.
Since the inception of JUEL in 2010, the program has been hosted by individual clubs such as Gloucester Wolverines and OYBA Ottawa Elite.  With upcoming changes to JUEL and the increasing talent base of basketball players across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario, it was the right time to form a regional partnership to strengthen the program for these athletes.  This partnership provides more access and resources to athletes across the region, while reducing their costs and travel and providing a more balanced experience for all participants.

“With centralized practice and training facilities along with direct support from our championship university programs in Ottawa, our JUEL athletes will have an improved experience and full understanding of what it takes to get to the next level in their basketball careers.” said Henk Dykhuizen, Director of Finance for OYBA Ottawa Elite.

"West Ottawa Basketball Association, Ottawa Shooting Stars, and Ottawa South Basketball Association are pleased to join OYBA, ONL, and NBBA in support of an elite basketball experience for the girls in the Capital Region." said Dan Case, President of West Ottawa Basketball and speaking on behalf of the Eastern Ontario Basketball Committee (EOBC).

"After supporting a JUEL Prep team last season, participating in a full JUEL franchise is a natural progression and exciting opportunity for Nepean Basketball and its players and coaches. We look to forward to working with our partners to make this a success." stated Eric Johannsen, President of Nepean Blue Devils.

“ONL is excited to work with our partners to be able to provide our local athletes with improved opportunities for high level training and competition between elite programs in preparation for post-secondary play.” said Rashida Timbilla, VP of girls competitive for Ottawa Next Level.

For anyone interested in applying to be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach of the Capital Region JUEL Prep or JUEL team, please apply online by Sunday July 30th.  The online Coach Application form and further information can be found HERE.
